National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has announced that mountaineer and philanthropist Peter Hillary will join select expeditions in Alaska and Antarctica in May and December 2027.
During the voyages, Hillary will share stories and lessons from his career in special onboard talks. The explorer will also take part in activities included in the itineraries, connecting with travelers throughout the expeditions.
A life dedicated to exploration

Peter Hillary is the son of Sir Edmund Hillary, who, alongside Tenzing Norgay, made the first confirmed ascent to the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.
Following his family’s legacy, Peter has taken part in more than 50 mountaineering expeditions, including five on Everest. He also completed the Seven Summits challenge, which includes the highest mountains on each continent, and skied to the South Pole in Antarctica.
His career also includes an approximately 5,000-kilometer journey through the Himalayas, completed over 10 months, and an aerial expedition to the North Pole alongside his father and astronaut Neil Armstrong.
“The spirit of discovery has shaped my life, from the mountains of the Himalayas to the polar regions. I look forward to sharing some of these experiences and learning about guests’ connection to and passion for exploration as we travel together,” says Peter Hillary.
Lindblad expeditions in Alaska

In May 2027, Hillary will take part in two voyages in Alaska. The Alaska’s Inside Passage and Hubbard Glacier itinerary will explore secluded coves, fjords, forests and areas near Hubbard Glacier.
The program will also offer opportunities to spot animals such as brown bears and bald eagles.
The Alaska’s Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and Prince Rupert expedition will combine landscapes in Alaska and British Columbia, Canada. The itinerary will feature fjords, wildlife-rich waters and visits to local communities.
Antarctica voyage in December
In December 2027, Peter Hillary will board the National Geographic Explorer for the Antarctica Direct: Sail and Fly the Drake Passage itinerary.

The proposal combines a sea crossing of the Drake Passage in one direction with a return flight. During the expedition, travelers will be able to spot whales and icebergs, as well as explore the region by Zodiac, kayak and on hikes.
“We are very pleased to welcome him back on board. His extraordinary life of exploration and the Hillary family legacy will add a very special dimension to Lindblad voyages,” concludes Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions.
